Day 1: Fly into San Jose, Costa Rica where you will be met inside the airport and taken to your waiting private transfer. From there we’ll take you down to the sport fishing capital of Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio. You’ll stay at the boutique The Falls Resort & Spa which offers it’s guests a quiet and serene setting in the midst of the tropical rain forest. Here you can find sloths, monkeys, over 1,000 types of plants, and several natural waterfalls.
Day 2: You will be picked early in the morning for your first day of fishing! You’ll fish with one of the most experienced in-shore anglers in Costa Rica, Pepsi. Originally from the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica and named Leonardo, Pepsi speaks native English and has been fishing his entire life so he knows how to handle his boat and find the fish. Troll with live bait and wait for the reel to scream!
Day 3: Head out early in the morning for another day full of roosterfish! Pepsi will have the live bait ready so if you missed out the first day here is your second chance.
Day 4:Take this day off to relax, rest your arms, and see what else Costa Rica has to offer. The nearby Manuel Antonio National Park is the most visited national park in Costa Rica due to it’s abundant wildlife and three gorgeous beaches.
Day 5: Head back out along the Central Pacific coastline for another day of light tackle fishing. Roosterfish love to make a second run when you get them close to the boat, so be prepared to fight back! If you’ve already caught a few roosterfish you can certainly go after one of our other in-shore species like snapper, grouper, jacks, barracuda, mackerel, and sea bass.
Day 6: Relax and enjoy your last day in Costa Rica, you’ve earned it! You can be lazy and soak up the sun all day or if you feel like it we can set you up to go white water rafting on the Savegre or Naranjo rivers, ride ATVs, go horseback riding, visit mangroves, or play Tarzan on the canopy zip-line tour.
Day 7: We will pick you up and take you to the Quepos Airstrip so you can board your domestic flight for a 25 minute flight back to San Jose.
Most of the sportfishing services in Costa Rica believe in the catch and release program for Marlin and Sailfish. By rod tipping to the fish with a bait or artificial lure, the fish is hooked in the forward part of the mouth area. The uninjured fish jumps more and fights longer. The fish runs hard, making handling the exhausted fish by the mate feasible so the hook can be taken out of the forward part of the mouth. Since the fish has not swollowed the bait, a healthy, but tired, fish is can be released.
FISHING IN COSTA RICA
Costa Rica’s rich waters boast giant marlin, super sailfish, vigorous tarpon, record-class snook and more than a dozen hard-hitting freshwater species. On the Pacific, it is not uncommon to catch and release 30 sailfish and even a marlin or two – in just one day. Boat operators release all billfish that are not record contenders; the waters hold many world records. Even deep-sea fly-fishing nets a record number of fish. Here are some of the fish and their seasons, listed geographically. Keep in mind though, fish don’t use calendars.
